“I am inspired by the creative spirit that shaped the early beginnings of occupational therapy. My life’s work is driven by the belief that arts-based occupational therapy can achieve wellness for growing resilient communities today.”
Isabel Fryszberg OT Reg (Ont.)
My Story
I was fortunate to discover drawing and painting at a young age. My parents were Holocaust survivors and that kind of trauma can be carried from one generation to the next.
The hours of simple artistic pleasure became my oasis of joy and strength while growing up. Artistic expression continues to be my sanctuary and source of resilience.
Today, I am known for my work as an arts-based registered occupational therapist as well as a practicing visual artist, musician, and filmmaker. I continue to cultivate a safe place for focus, freedom, and exuberance through the arts for individuals, trainers, and communities.
I have worked with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists, non-profit groups, health, corporate and social organizations to create wellness through the arts. I am also an adjunct lecturer and consultant for the University of Toronto Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy.

My Arts-Based Well-Being toolkit, online courses, and workshops are designed to offer a place of joy, connection, creativity, and resilience informed by evidence-based practice.
Creative Works Studio
I founded Creative Works Studio, the innovative, arts-based, occupational therapy program for adults living with mental health and addiction issues, which I ran for over twenty years in my role as creative lead at St. Michael’s Hospital. I have left the program yet draw from the success, and from the experience of best practices that program achieved and continues to provide for its participants.
My Awards
Over the years I have been recognized for my contribution to the field of occupational therapy and am the recipient of the following awards:
Alumni Achievement Award in Occupational Therapy (2020)

Advancing Occupational Therapy Practice Award (2011)

How I Engage with the Community

I integrate all my creative endeavors with integrity and a passionate desire to combine art-making and well-being.
